The Vorlesegerät enables blind and visually impaired people to have letters and documents read to them. The reader was developed by an interdisciplinary team at the first Open Health HACKademy. The challenge was to find a solution adapted to older people that was easy to use and is inexpensive. While commercially available devices cost between €2000 and €4000 to purchase, this development can be reproduced with material costs of only €250.
